The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) announced on October 30 that Terquavion Smith, a foreign player for the Shenzhen team, has been temporarily suspended. This decision follows a positive drug test result.
According to the CBA, Smith tested positive for cannabinoid substances during an in-game check on October 22. As per regulations, he is banned from all domestic and international competitions starting immediately. The athlete has the right to request a B-sample test. The CBA stated it maintains a "zero tolerance" policy and will handle the case strictly according to rules to ensure fairness in the league.
The China Anti-Doping Agency confirmed that Smith was found with carboxy-THC, a prohibited substance, after the game between Shenzhen and Beijing. He can apply for a B-sample test within five days.
The CBA Company issued a statement saying they take this matter seriously. They will follow the final decisions of the anti-doping agency and the CBA to maintain a fair environment.
In this season's regular games, Smith played five times for Shenzhen. He averaged 27.8 minutes per game, scoring 22.2 points, with 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
